How Much Does Estradiol Cream or Gel Cost? EstroGel, Estrace, Divigel & Elestrin Prices (2026)

What does estradiol cream or gel actually cost per month?

Four brand names cover almost every estradiol cream or gel a US prescriber writes: EstroGel, Estrace vaginal cream, Divigel and Elestrin. Each comes from a different maker. Some have a generic twin and some don't. The gap between the cheapest and the priciest option is about tenfold.

• Lowest price: a generic estradiol gel or vaginal cream with a free coupon, about $30 to $50 a month.
• Your script says EstroGel or Elestrin: no generic exists, so use a coupon on the brand. EstroGel drops to about $75 at CVS with SingleCare.
• You'd rather skip the pharmacy: Alloy ships its estradiol gel for about $70 a month.
• You have commercial insurance: ask for the generic. It usually sits on your plan's lowest copay tier.

EstroGel (estradiol gel, Ascend Therapeutics)

EstroGel comes in a pump bottle of 30 metered doses. That is one month at the lowest labeled starting dose. A higher dose empties the bottle faster. No generic version is sold in the US.

SingleCare lists an average cash price of about $235 a bottle. Its coupon brings that to about $75 at CVS. At other big chains, the same coupon gives about $135 to $145. So the pharmacy you pick matters almost as much as the coupon.

Estrace vaginal cream (estradiol, Allergan/AbbVie) and its generic

Estrace comes in a 42.5-gram tube. It treats vaginal symptoms, so you don't use it daily like a body gel. One tube can last from about a month to several months. A flat monthly price doesn't fit this one.

The gap between brand and generic is huge. SingleCare listed the brand tube at about $455. The same generic tube cost about $35 with the same coupon. That is roughly 93% less for the same drug.

Divigel (estradiol gel, Vertical Pharmaceuticals) and its generic

Divigel is a carton of 30 single-use gel packets, one a day for a month. Its brand cash price is the least steady number on this page. Price databases list averages from about $205 to about $410 for the same carton. The generic, estradiol gel 0.1%, is steadier. It averages about $125 in cash and about $30 to $40 with a GoodRx coupon.

Elestrin (estradiol gel, Viatris)

Elestrin has never had a generic. It comes as a pack of two 30-dose pump bottles, about two months of gel. The average cash price is about $325 a pack, or about $165 a month. A GoodRx coupon brings the pack to about $190, or about $95 a month.

Alloy's estradiol gel, shipped to you

Online menopause clinics sell estradiol gel too. Alloy charges about $70 a month for its gel or Evamist spray. You pay a one-time consult of about $50 first. The gel ships from Alloy, so no pharmacy is involved. Alloy doesn't bill insurance, so this suits women who pay cash.

Is Oestra cream the same as any of these?

No. Oestra is a branded, compounded cream with estradiol and progesterone. Only the online clinic Inner Balance sells it. It goes on the vaginal tissue and acts on the whole body. No retail pharmacy stocks it, and GoodRx doesn't cover it.

Does GoodRx actually lower the price, and by how much?

Yes, every time, but how much depends on whether a generic exists. With a generic, a coupon often cuts 70% to 90% off the brand's average price. You stop paying for the brand name. Estrace's generic tube drops to about $35. Divigel's generic gel drops to about $30 to $40.

Without a generic, a coupon still helps, just less. You are discounting the same brand, not switching to a cheaper twin. EstroGel goes from about $235 to about $75 at CVS with SingleCare. At other chains, the same coupon only reaches about $135 to $145.

Is there a cheaper generic version, or another way to get the same hormone?

For two of the four, yes. Divigel and Estrace vaginal cream both have FDA-approved generics. Switching is the biggest saving on this page, often 70% to 90%. Ask your prescriber to write "estradiol gel" or "estradiol vaginal cream" instead of the brand. Most pharmacies then fill the generic, unless the script says "dispense as written."

EstroGel and Elestrin have no generic in the US as of October 2026. If cost decides it, ask whether a generic estradiol gel would work just as well for you. A brand with a generic twin can cost far less than one without.

You can also skip the pharmacy. Alloy ships estradiol gel for about $70 a month, and Inner Balance ships its compounded Oestra cream. Neither goes through insurance.

What do you pay with insurance versus paying cash?

Most drug plans put generic estradiol on their lowest tier, with a small flat copay. A copay is the fixed amount you pay per fill. Brand-name versions usually sit on a higher tier or need prior authorization. That means your plan must approve the drug before it pays. This is common practice, not one insurer's rule, so check your own plan's drug list.

A copay isn't always cheaper than a coupon. If you haven't met your deductible, insurance may charge the full negotiated rate. That can cost more than GoodRx or SingleCare for the same fill. Why doesn't the retail price online match what you pay at the counter?

Because "retail price" is really three different numbers. Price sites often blend them without saying which one they mean.

• List price, or WAC: what the maker charges pharmacies before any markup. EstroGel's was $160 a bottle in a 2024 North Dakota state filing. Nobody pays this at the counter.
• Average retail cash price: what pharmacies charge someone with no coupon and no insurance. Each coupon site samples different pharmacies, so the averages differ. SingleCare puts EstroGel at about $235.
• Coupon price: the rate a coupon service has agreed with one pharmacy chain. EstroGel is about $75 at CVS with SingleCare.

None of these is the one true retail price. A page that quotes one without naming it isn't telling you much.

Are there manufacturer coupons or copay cards?

EstroGel, Divigel and Elestrin each have one. We found no standard copay card for Estrace.

• EstroGel: up to $35 off each copay · Up to 12 fills a year
• Divigel: up to $25 off each fill · About $45 for 30 days or about $120 for 90 days · Up to 12 fills a year
• Elestrin: up to $25 off each 30-day fill · Up to $300 a year

All three need a commercial or employer plan to process the claim first. Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE and VA coverage are excluded. If you pay cash with no insurance, the card doesn't help you. A GoodRx or SingleCare coupon is the better route then. For Estrace, Allergan offers an income-based patient assistance program. It takes an application, so it is slower than a card.

What's the real annual cost, and how do you lower it?

Over a year, options that looked close start to look very different.

• Generic with a coupon: about $360 to $600 a year, gel or cream
• EstroGel: about $900 a year with a SingleCare coupon at CVS · About $2,800 at the average cash price
• Divigel brand, no coupon: about $2,450 to $4,900 a year
• Elestrin: about $1,150 a year with a GoodRx coupon · About $1,950 without
• Alloy gel: about $840 a year, plus about $50 once for the consult
• Inner Balance Oestra: about $1,790 in year one · About $1,195 a year after

• Ask for the generic by name if you use Divigel or Estrace vaginal cream. It is the biggest saving, often 70% to 90%.
• Price both the coupon and your copay at the counter. The pharmacist can run both, and the lower one wins.
• Use the maker's copay card if you have commercial insurance. EstroGel, Divigel and Elestrin each have one.
• Pay with HSA or FSA funds. Prescription HRT generally counts as an eligible medical expense.
• Ask about a brand that has a generic if yours has none, like EstroGel or Elestrin.
